Here's the Deal

I am an individualist.

I will take care of my needs.  I will work until the day I die to support myself, and I will demand nothing from you.  I will not rely on you, your money, your government programs to meet my needs.

But the deal is this:  I will not pay for you, your abortions, your medical coverage, your union contracts with unlimited benefits, your welfare state.  You see, I refuse to be stolen from.  Currently I earn just enough to get by.  I pay my meager taxes, and somehow, minute by minute, I abide.

I know that there are lots of you freeloaders out there who think you own the product of my labor, my mind, my creativity.  But you don't.  If you insist that whatever level of greatness I have is yours you can pound sand.  I would rather die a failure than live to successfully enrich the lazy.  They don't deserve it.

I know, I'm more of a Eddie Willers than a John Galt.  I may not have the brains and industry of a great man.  But I have something to offer.  I have something to add to improve the human condition.  The more you sit on me, beating me with a stick, and screaming at me to 'give' or 'contribute' more, the less I will give.  You see I don't give to thieves, and for now I am not a prisoner, forced to work at the whim of the state.

I was born in a free country.  But the free have traded in their liberty for a fleeting paycheck or two from the Federal Treasury.  Money that was theirs to begin with: taken, diluted, stolen from, and trickled back to them.  And they smiled and bought a HDTV and thought that Big Brother was smiling on them.

But the money is soon gone, yet the freedom has been squandered forever.  You see, once you sacrifice a freedom, it usually takes a revolution to get it back.  This is the inheritance I fear we have left to our children.
