I'll admit that I'm hooked on "talking heads". Not necessarily politicians (in fact most politicians are more like squawking birds - always saying the same things over and over) but thoughtful analysts. People that will think about the topic and not just parrot the company line.
My parents were CBS' "Sunday Morning" fans. I used to like to listen to Charles Kuralt. As I got older, NBC's "Meet The Press" and ABC's "This Week" became my favorites. Especially Tim Russert. Let us not forget the feisty "The McLaughlin Group", though the shouting over other guests made it tiresome. When Tony Snow put "FOX News Sunday" together I found a new favorite.
I have stopped watching most of these. Too much fluff or rigid points of view. No thoughtful discussions any more. Interview some simpering ass then have a fake give and take with oversize logo'ed coffee mugs.
What I'd like to see is a ninety minute program with some real guts. The first half of the program will be devoted to a debate of a predetermined topic. Statement/rebuttal, short statement/short rebuttal (order determined by coin toss) followed by a round table discussion on the subject. The trailing segments are each single subject round table discussions. Subjects should be topical and timely. To be chosen by the moderator and producers. Round table topics disclosed in advance at the discretion of the moderator.
The starting line up:
Moderator: Chris Wallace
Conservatives: Brit Hume, George Will, Liz Cheney, and Charles Krauthammer
Liberals: Juan Williams, Sam Donaldson, Susan Estrich, and Mara Liasson
